About us: one of the leading animal charities in North Devon

When North Devon animals are in trouble, who do you call? Fortunately, since 2002, the North Devon Animal Ambulance (NDAA) has played its part as one of Devon's animal charities.

A local animal charity for local animals

One thing that distinguishes us among UK animal charities is that we’re local and our mission is to care for local animals. We were founded in 2002 and remain a small, voluntary, local organisation. We’re dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming domestic animals. For wildlife, we do rescues and first aid before transferring the animal to the RSPCA's West Hatch wildlife hospital for rehab and eventual return to the wild. From hedgehogs and horses to budgies and dogs, we’ll try to be there.

Every penny is spent on North Devon animals

We provide welfare backup and an animal ambulance service for pets, farm animals and wildlife in North Devon. And when we help animals, we usually help humans too. We’re more than just an animal charity, we’re a local animal charity that also benefits local people.

Though we’ve got friends elsewhere in the UK and further afield, we’re still just a small, North Devon charity. Every penny donated, raised through fundraising or earned by our three local charity shops, is spent on local animals. Unlike many animal charities in the UK, none of our volunteers are paid.

Featuring North Devon's own 'animal angel'

At the forefront of our work is Diana Lewis, North Devon's own 'animal angel'. She’s the founding trustee whose tireless work has made us one of the best animal charities in the county. For nearly 20 years, Diana’s worked tirelessly for North Devon animals. Her commitment regularly gets her into local, regional and national media. She even featured in a documentary with actor John Nettles and was Carlton Television's Westcountry Woman of the Year in 2001.
